ACT II
Scene 1
SETTING: TOMMY is still stuck out on the ledge of the third floor, clinging
to the wall.
AT RISE: SISTER MARY JEAN ENTERS and goes to the window. A student is practicing the piano offstage.
SISTER MARY JEAN
(Looking out)
Tommy? Are you all right?
TOMMY
(In a small voice)
I'm okay. I .. I'm just looking at the view. You
can see all the way to Sinsinawa from here.
SISTER MARY JEAN
I'm afraid you
might fall.
TOMMY
So am I.
SISTER MARY JEAN
Why did you go
out here?
TOMMY
I was chased.
SISTER MARY JEAN
Why don't you
come in?
TOMMY
I can't move. Besides, Sister Don Bosco told me to wait here while she got Father Grundy.
SISTER MARY JEAN
She told you
to wait there?
TOMMY
(With a little smile)
That's right.
SISTER MARY JEAN
(Hand outstretched)
Can you reach
my hand?
TOMMY
I think so.
SISTER MARY JEAN
(Firmly gripping his hand)
I've got you. Don't worry. You're okay now. Get down on your knees and crawl toward me.
(TOMMY
is pulled through window to safety. SISTER DON BOSCO enters with FATHER GRUNDY
in tow. Offstage MUSIC starts)
