In January of 2003, David Resnick began his adaptation of Robert Byrne's 1940s coming-of-age
novel, Memories of a Non-Jewish Childhood. Resnick
has taken the wonderfully visual vignettes and has composed a musical score that preserves and even heightens the humor and vitality.
Memories of a Non-Jewish Childhood
– the Musical was originally produced at Five Flags Theater in Dubuque, Iowa by the Grand
Opera House in February and March of 2005. Over five thousand persons attended those eight performances – the last three being sold out
houses!
With an original cast of thirty-two, the
script accommodates additional actors. Also,
the Saints Choir can be performed by a good
local choral group, which
fosters vital community involvement.
